Project Description:
880 Willoughby, which opened in July of 2007, is a $15.6m supportive and affordable housing development located in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. The project consists of a rehabbed former luggage factory connected to a newly constructed building on an adjacent lot. Designed by the architectural firm of Oaklander Coogan & Vitto, 880 Willoughby provides permanent affordable housing and supportive services for 100 individuals. Of the 100 units, 60 units are occupied by formerly homeless individuals with a disability, 11 units are for formerly homeless working individuals and 26 of the tenants are low-income individuals who earn no more than 50% of the Area Median Income; one unit is occupied by a live-in superintendent. All of the units at 880 Willoughby are fully furnished and beautifully appointed studio apartments with private bathrooms, kitchenettes and hardwood floors. The development also features an outdoor sculpture garden and patio for tenant use. 880 Willoughby is located close to major public transportation and neighborhood amenities.
880 Willoughby was recently selected as a partner in desigNYC, sponsored by Enterprise Community Partners and New York Magazine, and will be receiving design consultation from SOHBR Studio and new furniture for its common spaces and community rooms through this program.
Social Services: CAMBA provides case management and programming on-site, such as nutrition counseling, yoga, financial management and holiday and social gatherings; 24-hour building security is also provided.
